Flash

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus)

Flash hatched in a nest box in Columbus and during her fledging (first flight) it was observed that she was unable to gain altitude once on the ground. Eventually we discovered she has a genetic disorder causing her feathers to grow improperly and limiting her ability to hunt.

Flash has metal leg bands that were put on her as a nestling by the Ohio Division of Wildlife as part of a population study in 2015. Since then, peregrine populations have increased sufficiently for them to be removed from the endangered species list.
