About the Glen Helen Raptor Center

The Glen Helen Raptor Center is Green County’s only raptor education and rehabilitation center and services a third of the counties in Ohio. Founded in 1970 by Dr. Stephen Kress, the center averages around 220 intakes annually and houses just under 30 permanently injured or non-releasable birds. The goal of wildlife rehabilitation is to release healthy individuals back to the wild. Though donations are always appreciated, there is no charge for bringing an injured raptor in need of care.

The Raptor Center offers a variety of educational opportunities both at the center and around Ohio. Last year, the Center performed 129 scheduled programs to just under 8,000 individuals in 20 cities around Ohio.

The Raptor Center takes care of over 200 birds annually in the rehabilitation clinic. In 2025, we cared for 260 birds of 18 species from 31 counties across Ohio.

Funding for the Raptor Center comes from individual donations and support, educational program fees, and project specific grants. The Raptor Center does not receive any state or federal funding or tax income. The Raptor Center does not charge for rehabilitation services, but appreciates donations whenever possible.
