My time as a naturalist set me on a career path that still invigorates and motivates me to do my best today. I am very grateful to my younger self for taking a risk and trying something that at the time felt incredibly unfamiliar.

It was such a formative experience for me. I made some of the deepest friendships while learning how to be an adult. It was truly amazing.

Naturalist Teacher Internship

The Naturalist Teacher Internship provides a robust foundation for the next generation of environmental educators and stewards. Immersive training is followed by a hands-on practicum.

Naturalist Teacher Interns are responsible for facilitating student learning at Outdoor School through teaching hands-on, inquiry based science, providing opportunities for students’ personal growth, and fostering a connection to nature. This experience allows Interns to apply their knowledge directly, refining valuable teaching skills, while contributing to programs that promote exploration, conservation, and lifelong learning. Naturalist Teacher Interns receive ongoing training and mentorship, experience working with animal ambassadors, career shadowing opportunities across the Glen, and ongoing professional development opportunities. Benefits include a weekly stipend as well as on-site housing with wifi and laundry, as well as meals, and access to the local Wellness Center.

We are currently recruiting for our 2026-2027 Naturalist Teacher Internship Cohort, beginning in August 2026 and concluding in May 2027. Please find a position description below. To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, and three references to oec@glenhelen.org. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

To qualify for the Naturalist Internship program, an individual must be able to perform each primary responsibility. The Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center aims to make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform primary responsibilities. If you are interested in and passionate about our work, please do consider applying.
